Week 9 - Open House/Harvest Fest
This week was a busy, busy week! It started on Monday with a kick-off presentation from The CLiF Foundation and a $500 donation of library books to our school plus a $2,000 donation to the Westfield Library. You will see pictures in the slideshow of the whole-school assembly we had. The preschool students sat quietly and listened to the storyteller for over 30 minutes! Our class received 12 new hard cover books. :)
We worked on the letter "F" this week. We learned how to play leap frog; a very funny sight in the classroom! We made frogs with the letter F, and flamingos using foot prints. We talked about feelings and friendship. We challenged the children to tell us every kind word and deed they did that day, (or saw someone else doing). We had many tattlers; but these tattles were awesome to hear! We also talked about family and which family members were coming to Open House. We helped prepare the food for the Harvest dinner; our job was to get the kale ready to be made into kale chips. We also went on a walking field trip to the fire station to see the huge maple tree stumps complete with the root beds that had been pulled up. It was interesting for the children to see the part of the tree that lives underground! We talked about how the roots were like straws that sucked the water out of the ground for the tree, how to tell the age by counting the rings and what might have caused the rot in the center of the tree. Next week is another short week so we will do more work on the same letter. Our focus will be fire safety so please be prepared to talk about a fire escape plan with your child.
